SAM Magazine--December 1, 2005, East Burke, VT--According to the Caledonian-Record, the long-speculated-upon sale of Burke Mountain in Vermont to the Ginn Company was completed on Tuesday November 29.

Burke Mountain was bought out of auction by the Burke Mountain Academy in 2000. Other parcels of land surrounding the ski area were also sold at auction, which the Ginn Company is attempting to close on.

The long-term plan for the ski area will likely include turning it into a four-season resort, complete with real estate and retail. Charles Hardiman will be the resort's new GM.

The Ginn Company, which is known for its high-end golf communities, also owns land in Colorado, in the Vail suburb of Minturn. The company is proposing to build a private ski area along with a golf course on the land, which will include 1,400 homes.

The Burke Mountain Academy retained its easements, which will allow it to continue to use the ski area for its race training.

Keep Burke the way it is.

Burke is one of the best mountains I have ridden on the east coast, besides the lifts they better not change it too much.
