Mt. Bachelor, Squaw Add to July 4th Celebrations
SAM Magazine-Bend, Ore. June 16, 2011-The July 4 weekend will see several areas open this year, and some are planning to take the novelty up a notch. Mt. Bachelor will open for skiing and snowboarding July 2-4, and present mid-day live music at the Pine Marten lodge on Saturday and Sunday. And Squaw, which had already planned a full plate of action, has piled on even more entertainment.
Bachelor will offer intermediate and advanced skiing from the summit, snow and weather conditions permitting. from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m, with lift tickets priced at $30 for all ages. A reduced-rate $20 lift ticket will be offered to all 2010-11 full and midweek season passholders, 12-day passholders and club card members.
After a record-breaking snowfall of 665 inches, Bachelor's upper elevations retain a deep snowpack. Skiing and snowboarding will be available from the Summit Express chair, accessible via Pine Marten Express out of the West Village base area, providing the highest lift-served spring skiing in the Cascades.
The first 250 skiers and snowboarders purchasing tickets each day will receive a commemorative T-shirt celebrating skiing and snowboarding over the July 4th Holiday.
Squaw Valley will be hosting a jam-packed 4th of July weekend, with summer skiing and riding, concerts, barbeques and pool parties. Squaw received 810 inches of snow this season, and currently boasts a 14-foot base.
The Squaw 4th party kicks off July 1 with a free concert by Stung, a Police tribute band, and continues all weekend long with DJ pool parties and daily barbeques at the High Camp Pool & Hot Tub, live music at Gold Coast, and the Fine Arts & Crafts Festival Friday through Sunday in the Village at Squaw Valley. The area has added a free concert by Big Head Todd and the Monsters concert and a fireworks display on July 3.
Squaw will operate six lifts from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. across 2,000 skiable acres July 2-4, weather permitting. Lifts scheduled to run include the Funitel, Gold Coast Express, Shirley Lake Express, Links, the Cable Car and Siberia Express. Lift tickets will be $49 per day for adults, $12 for kids 12 and under, and free for 2011-12 Squaw Valley season passholders-as well as active members of the military. All skiers and riders will receive a free commemorative 4th of July T-shirt on July 4, as long as supplies last. \
