SAM Magazine-Donnelly, Idaho, Dec. 6, 2010-Idaho bankruptcy court judge Terry Myers today approved a ski and snowboard season at Tamarack Resort, even as bankruptcy proceedings continue and lender Credit Suisse seeks to turn the bankruptcy proceedings into a liquidation. Hearings on that request continue in court tomorrow.

Nonetheless, the Tamarack Municipal Association's (TMA) advocacy for a ski and ride season earned the support of both the State of Idaho and Credit Suisse. The TMA, a homeowners' group, had led an effort starting in the summer to ensure the resort would open this winter. It led an effort to secure more than $400,000 in payments to the Idaho School Endowment to meet settlement obligations of a mountain land lease approved in November by the Idaho Land Board. Tamarack homeowners contributed $80,000 to the settlement. The payments secured the State of Idaho's and Credit Suisse's participation as advocates to win approval in Idaho Bankruptcy Court for a 2010-11 ski and snowboard operation.

"Tamarack homeowners are committed to help re-establish a sense of community at this exceptional mountain and lake destination, and Judge Myers in his decision to us is clearly agreeing that the resort is more valuable with skiers and snowboarders flocking to it than if the property is dormant while bankruptcy proceedings continue," said Doug Dvorak, TMA board chairman.

At the Idaho Land Board's November meeting, officials approved a settlement of a lease dispute that enabled Tamarack Resort homeowners to conduct a $1.5-million wintertime ski, snowboard and guest services operation.

The season is scheduled to open Dec.20, with the area operating four days a week plus holidays.
