SAM Magazine—San Francisco, Oct. 1, 2014—Liftopia, which operates a consumer marketplace and resort technology platform for ski lift tickets and other mountain activities, has introduced the industry's first tiered, dynamic pricing system for lift tickets. The company's Value, Value Plus and Flexible options are now available for the 2014-15 ski season.

The new ticket options feature a range of savings and flexibility to meet the needs of different skiers and snowboarders, whether they are traveling to a destination or hitting the slopes closer to home. The options:

• Value lift tickets are date-specific, non-refundable and non-changeable. They offer the deepest discounts, with savings up to 85 percent off window rates when purchased in advance.

• Value Plus lift tickets offer the flexibility of a one-time date change during the season.

• Flexible lift tickets permit unlimited date changes during the season.

The price of the ticket for any particular day can vary over the course of a season, depending on availability and demand, among other factors. If Value Plus and Flexible tickets are changed to dates that are more expensive, customers will just pay the difference in price—there are no change fees.

“At Liftopia, we work hard to make it easier for people to ski more often, in ways that are also beneficial for ski areas,” said Evan Reece, co-founder and CEO of Liftopia. “These new options provide a range of flexibility to give consumers a choice of what is best for their needs.

“Consumers can have confidence that the farther they buy in advance, the more they will be rewarded for their commitment,” he added.

Some examples of Value, Value Plus and Flexible lift tickets available now (prices are based on availability, and will change dynamically over the season):

• Mount Snow, Vt.—Advance-purchase lift tickets for the week of Christmas (Dec. 22-26) are currently $47 for Value tickets, 48 percent off the window price; $55.59 for Value Plus, 38 percent off; or $60.59 for Flexible, 33 percent off.

• Arapahoe Basin, Colo.—Tickets for the last week in December (Dec. 29-Jan. 2) are $59 (Value), 35 percent off the walk-up rate; $65 (Value Plus), 27 percent off; or $70 (Flexible), 21 percent off.

Flexible tiered pricing options are also being introduced by several resorts that use the cloud-based Liftopia Platform to implement advance-purchase commerce and dynamic pricing models on the resorts' own websites and mobile channels.
