SAM Magazine—Danbury, N.H., Feb. 3, 2015—Ryan Schramm has been named general manager of Ragged Mountain Resort. Schramm, 36, joined the staff in 2010 and most recently served as director of business development, information technology (IT), F&B, and competitions.

Prior to joining Ragged, Schramm, a lifelong skier, spent 11 years in the hospitality business in both private restaurants and corporate food service companies. He has a culinary degree from Penn College. On snow, he is a Level 300 certified USSA coach and a PSIA certified ski instructor with more than 12 years of experience at New England resorts. A native of Williamsport, Pa., and the son of a ski shop owner, Schramm grew up skiing at Ski Sawmill Resort.

"Ryan is a very strong skier and has been around the industry a long time as evidenced by his ski racing career, both as a competitor and coach. His experience in the hospitality industry is an added value,” said Vern Greco, president of Ragged's parent company, Pacific Group Resorts, headquartered in Park City, Utah.

Greco, a veteran president and general manager of three Western resorts, noted, “Running a ski area today requires a blend of hospitality, management and traditional ski area operating skills. … A GM has to understand how to operate the mountain and also understand other business units like food and beverage, guest services, and the increasingly integrated and complex use of technology.”

Greco noted that Schramm also spent time building and racing rally cars for several years, so he brings a mechanical background to the job as well.

Pacific Group has invested heavily in Ragged Mountain over the past few years, adding a high speed quad, two restaurants, and a tubing park, and increasing the area's snowmaking capacity.
