WILDFIRE CLOSES SNOW KING SUMMER OPERATIONS
SAM Magazine—Jackson, Wyo., Sept. 10, 2012—The Little Horsethief Fire south of Jackson has burned at least 1,500 acres, prompting Snow King resort to close its summer operations, including the bike and hiking trails, lifts, and alpine slide. The Jackson Hole resort is not impacted by the blaze, and all highways in and out of Jackson remain open.
The blaze was spotted around 3 p.m. Saturday near the Little Horsethief subdivision, south of the town of Jackson. The fire has burned to the northeast, in largely uninhabited and rough terrain. This afternoon, the fire was said to be about two miles south of Snow King, and to be about 15 percent contained.
Teton County spokeswoman Charlotte Reynolds said that homes and businesses in the immediate area of the fire were evacuated Saturday. Other neighborhoods in east Jackson are under an evacuation advisory, with instructions to be ready to leave on short notice if necessary.
