The four winter trade shows are being scheduled for the east, midwest, Rocky Mountains and far west, and the NSAA midwinter board meeting will be held in conjunction with one of these.
Other NSAA action has been to raise some of the dues for the very smallest areas and for the very largest. Most areas inbetween these extremes will not be affected. Minimum dues will now be $100—up from $50, which, it was found, did not cover costs for these members. At the top end the incremental scale will be expanded to reflect a $250 increase of dues for every $500,000 over $2 million.
One of the major projects for the next year will be working with the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation in a pilot study of the winter outdoor recreation market. Plans and funding are nearly complete, according to Conniff, and the program will enable the industry to get the first good measure of itself since 1962.

Canada deal set for Valley Engineering
Valley Engineering has announced an agreement with Skyway Engineering, of Kitchener, Ontario, to manufacture and sell in Canada some of Valley’s grooming equipment, including the patented Powdermakers and rear-grooming frames.
“We are delighted to get the benefit of Skyway’s strengths in Canada,” said Otto Wallingford of Valley Engineering. Dennis Williams, who signed for Skyway, said, “Valley has developed some fine equipment, and I know we’ll be able to do a job with them in our fast-growing Canadian market.”
Valley Engineering is the manufacturer of a broad line of snow grooming equipment for all models of over-snow vehicles.
Hedco appoints Karl Dell VP
The appointment of Karl J. Dell as vice president and general manager of the Dewey Electronics Corp., Paramus, N.J. was announced by Gordon C. Dewey, president. Dewey said Dell will be responsible for Hedco and Pitlog and Dewey plant operations, manufacturing, engineering and sales. Hedco snowmaking sales and field service will continue to be directed by Larry Demarse, VP.
Both Dell and his wife, Lynn, are certified instructors (FWSIA and PSIA), and Dell served for many years as assistant ski school director at California’s Holiday Hill
