Power Failure Light Introduced
A portable power failure light that turns on automatically if power fails is being produced by U-C Lite Manufacturing Co., Crystal Lake, Illinois. The Big Beam “Night Lark” plugs into any standard outlet, then turns on if there is a power failure and operates continuously for over three hours. It has a projected life of 25,000 hours. It can also be used as a portable hand lamp.
Thiokol Adds Versatility
The Thiokol Sprite 1200 series over-the-snow vehicles can be equipped with a new hydraulic snow roller and snow plow to increase the machine’s utility as a slope grooming system. The blade and rollers can be lifted from inside the cab. The rollers pack a swath 14 feet wide. The new system is adaptable to both the 1201 and 1202 models.
Dispenser Designed For Tickets
A lift ticket dispenser constructed of heavy aluminum designed to fit any size tickets has been designed by Weldon, Williams and Lick, Inc., Fort Smith, Arkansas, one of the major suppliers of lift tickets to the ski industry. The dispenser can be adapted for wall use or for portable counter use.
Portable Oxygen Available
A specially adapted version of the portable emergency oxygen equipment used by the Air Force is available for civilian use through the Erie Mfg. Co., Milwaukee. The Port-O2-Matic, the unit weighs 7½ pounds, will furnish a 40-minute supply of oxygen to one individual when administered on an uninterrupted basis. The unit can be refilled.
Caterpillar Adds Generator
Caterpillar is offering a new Series D (SRCR) generator for inclusion in certain models of Cat Electric Sets using Cat-built D311, D320, D330 and D333 diesel engines. The company claims the Cat SRCR (Statically-Regulated, Controlled Rectifier) generators are lighter and easier to service and offer refinements and improvements over the SRSE units. The generator coupled to a D320 Series A Diesel Engine (above) can produce 50 KW (3 phase-60 cycle) at 125-216, 230-460, 115-230, 575 or 2400 volts.
Infra-Red Heater Is Portable
The Brower Manufacturing Company, Quincy, Illinois, has produced a portable LP-gas infra-red heater that weighs less than 15 pounds and provides more than eight hours heat from a five pound container of gas. The heater was designed for outdoor winter use and can be used to thaw engines, radiators or water pipes, or for general emergency heating. Infra-red rays heat only on contact with a solid object and are not affected by wind or rain. There is no heat loss in the air.
“Tilt” Problem Eliminated
A new floodlight, Q-1000, has been developed by Spero Electric, Cleveland, Ohio, with a rated life of 2,000 hours, that burns in any position. The Quartz Iodine Lamp, using 1,000-watt, 120-volt power, develops 800,000 center beam candlepower. It can be ordered with a variety of lenses.
Light Pattern Improved
A new reflector design for a metallic vapor light source provides a “block of light” pattern for general area illumination. The squares of illumination make it possible to provide lighting checkerboard style to cover specific areas. A 300 by 750-foot parking area can produce a minimum of one footcandle anywhere in the area using 18, 30-foot poles and 72 Profile floodlights. The lamps are produced by Crouse-Hinds Company, Syracuse, New York. The top lamp is a conventional parabolic reflector type and the lower lamp is the new asymmetrical fixture.
