A correction
You mention that Snowbird’s new condominium “Orange Blosam” might be misspelled because the word Blosam was misspelled in the original mining claim. We certainly appreciate the mention, but would like to point out that the building’s actual name is Iron Blosam.

Sierra snow loads
Sir:
I certainly enjoyed the article on Bruce Campbell Graham’s very handsome Killington Peak restaurant. Having lived and skied in Stowe for twelve years, I certainly appreciate the comments on wind and cold. Out here in California these are more moderate, but the snow loads are twice as heavy, our normal design loads ranging between 250 and 275 pounds per square foot.
On the other hand, our experience has been that in exposed locations such as yours with a flat roof, the snow load is usually closer to zero.
Our experience on built-up roofs is that we should ignore all roofing manuals and make sure that the flashings are placed on top of the roofing and in no way implanted in the roofing. With normal detailing, the expansion-contraction of the metal is such as to rip the roofing, insuring leaks and hard feelings.

This is an open letter to all of the staff of Ski Area Management, members of NSAA and members of the ski industry.
I would like to thank all of you for your concern and sympathy in the death of my father, Robert E. Kinney. His life centered around the ski industry, and it was due to many of you he was able to live as much as he did. It does make me feel much better knowing he will not be forgotten quickly.
As I said, his life was centered around the ski industry, and through this I have been able to develop a deep, warm feeling for all aspects of it and for the people also.
Once again, thank you for all of the many things you did for my father and for your sincere concern. In the same way he will not be forgotten to you, none of you will ever be forgotten by my mother, brother or myself.

I would like to use your columns to tell my friends in the industry that I have submitted my resignation from my present position and will be leaving Thiokol Corporation within the immediate future. My years with Thiokol have been most enjoyable and have permitted me to meet and to know a great number of dedicated people in the ski industry such as yourself. It would be less than proper for me to leave all of my friends in the industry without taking this opportunity to thank you for all of your courtesies to me in the past, and to wish you every measure of success in the future.
Should you ever be in the neighborhood of Sebring, Florida, my wife and I would be delighted to have you drop in for a friendly libation, golf game, fishing, horseback riding or just talking.
