The rapid growth of the ski industry in our country is indeed remarkable. More and more Americans are getting the chance to enjoy the outdoors and improve their physical well-being. While contributing to so many people’s pleasure, your industry also provides an important economic boost to many of the nation’s rural mountain regions.
Some of my happiest moments have been spent skiing in the mountains of Colorado. I will be thinking of you as you hold your meeting and wishing you lots of good snow for the coming winter.

Last year’s annual convention and trade show drew record attendance from the membership. It was no fluke that it was such an overwhelming success for us all. There were two compelling reasons why: 1. Imaginative Programming, and 2. Just plain Hard Work on the part of your staff and directors. Of course, each and every one of you are really the ones who made it a success. You came, you saw, you talked, listened, learned and interacted. And we all today are the better for it. Cal Conniff set a standard at the Seven Springs, PA. convention that we have every intention of meeting and surpassing this year.
As you read through this program and schedule, you quickly see that the 14TH ANNUAL NATIONAL SKI AREAS ASSOCIATION CONVENTION AND TRADE SHOW will be interesting, challenging and fun — hopefully in equal proportions.
The elegant Broadmoor Hotel at Colorado Springs, Colo. is the spectacular setting for this year’s annual meeting. With its natural beauty, and its outstanding facilities both inside and out, the Broadmoor gives us promise of the best convention ever.
It has been a very active year for your association, and in our meetings we will be seeking to gain an understanding and a perspective of the complex problems that we have dealt with and that will be facing us in the coming year. Your input is needed in order for us to continue to effectively meet the challenges that lie before us.
I look forward to seeing you there. Don’t hesitate in making your plans to attend.
