Mike Reitzell to Step Down as NSAA President and CEO

SAM Magazine—Lakewood, Colo., Oct. 27, 2026—Michael Reitzell will step down as president and CEO of the National Ski Areas Association, effective Nov. 10, 2026. After two years at the helm, Reitzell said he is stepping away from the role for personal reasons.

“Over the past two years, my wife Kristen and I have navigated significant health issues within our family, including difficult news more recently,” he said. “Those experiences have given us a different perspective on our priorities and how we want to spend our time in the years ahead. With two young children, we’re increasingly mindful of how precious these years are and the importance of making more room for family.”

NSAA board chairman Stephen Kircher said the board of directors will begin its search for a successor soon.

“On behalf of the NSAA Board, I want to thank Mike for his passion for the industry, initiating several tangible initiatives over the past two years that we can build upon, and for his commitment to a smooth transition,” Kircher added. “We wish him and his family well during a difficult time.”

As NSAA president and CEO, Reitzell was responsible for the organization’s strategic direction and operations, including government relations and lobbying activities, public relations, research, financial management, member education and administration.

“I’m excited for what’s ahead at NSAA, and confident in the foundation we’ve built for its future,” said Reitzell, adding, “While I’m stepping away from this role, I’m certainly not stepping away from the industry or the people who make it so special. My work in this industry and shaping its future is far from over, and I look forward to the years ahead.”

Before joining NSAA, Reitzell was president of Ski California, the trade association representing ski areas in California and Nevada. Previously, he was an attorney representing resorts in the region.
