Scientific Associates, Inc., Concord, Mass., has developed a kit for quickly patching gouges in polyethylene ski bases. The manufacturer claims that this method will eliminate sanding to obtain a smooth finish. The kit contains a plastic powder and a plastic sheet. To repair a gouge, fill the hole with plastic powder, put the plastic sheet on top and heat with a household iron. The kit is priced at $1.00.
Walker Manufacturing Co. of Fowler, Kansas, has unveiled a new small-wheel, multi-purpose vehicle, the Walker Power Truck. Suitable as a utility vehicle, cargo hauler and personnel carrier, the basic unit can also be used as a small tractor for dozing, plowing, mowing and tilling with attachments. Features include single-control foot pedal, brake pedal, swing-over steering post of left or right hand drive, zero-inch turning radius, 40 mph. crushing speed, 1,000-pound payload, automatic 3-speed torque converter action and 2-cylinder 50 cubic-inch, air cooled, gasoline engine.
An epoxy adhesive from Allaco Products, 238 Main, Cambridge 42, Mass., has been used to repair damaged rubber sheave liners in a matter of minutes. One NSAA member filled a gouge with Allaco’s Minit-Cure and found that it cured in 20 minutes. The manufacturer says that curing time is 60 seconds, and pot life is 45 seconds, at room temperature. Heat lamps are said to substantially accelerate curing time.
For area kitchens, J. C. Pitman & Sons, Concord, N. H., are marketing a new deep fat fryer, said to produce more pounds of fried food per hour in less floor space than ever before possible. The Frialator Comet features a new Convecto-Therm heat tube that creates 40 per cent more heating area safely and efficiently, resulting in a guaranteed heating speed of 50 to 60 degrees per minute with approximately one-third savings in fuel consumption. Comet features a modern slant-front design, lift-off basket hanger, protected heat dial, high-sensitivity thermostat and adjustable legs. Its heat tubes have a 6-in. long radial fin arrangement, making it possible to fry 125 pounds of potatoes with only 125,000 btu input and avoiding the common problem of hot-spots. Design is approved by the American Gas Association, tested for 50,000 cycles or five years.
McCulloch Corp. has designed a spark arrester and muffler for its line of chain saws that meets the fire prevention regulations of Forest Service Agencies. The new unit is standard equipment on all larger chain saws in the line. The design features a new stiffener and baffle coupled with a special steel alloy screen. The screen is said to prevent the escape of hot carbon particles larger than .0230.
