Lift ticket attacher
The one-piece all-nylon cable ties are available in natural nylon and ten other colors. Ties have bent tips for faster insertion, and can be threaded even when wearing gloves.
Manufacturer claims the ties will not snag a ski jacket, and that they remain pliable to -40 deg.

Tennis court surface
A brochure is now available on the Plexipave surface from California Products Corp., 169 Waverly St., Cambridge, Mass. 02139.
The Plexipave surface resists cracking, alligatoring and lifting, according to the manufacturer; it is also said to resist fading, and to wear evenly over the years.
Vermeer log-slitter
Vermeer Mfg. Co. of Pella, Iowa, has introduced the LS-200 hydraulic log-splitter.
The self-contained, 12 HP unit splits any log up to 30 inches long, according to the manufacturer. The overhead cylinder hydraulically wedges a heavy-duty cutting blade through the log under 22,000 lbs of splitting force.
Additional features include an electric starter and a torsion axle that provides a smooth ride when trailing the unit at highway speeds, according to the manufacturer.
Lift safety system
A Swiss lift safety system by Kundig AG is now available through Lift Consultants, 1355 Joliet Pl., Detroit, Mich. 48207.
The low voltage system is designed to give continuous monitoring of the entire safety circuit, as well as give warning of any malfunction within the system. With derailment, it will automatically stop the lift.
The manufacturer claims the system will operate on anything from a T-bar to aerial tram, and without regard to the number of towers.
The system, which is lightning-protected, requires two overhead signal lines that incorporate the service telephone too.
Other features can be built into the electronic control box, such as automatic wind gage, remote speed control, remote starter and others.
Each installation is tailored, but a typical system would cost $4,000, according to a company spokesman.
Lift safety switch
A new type of automatic switch designed to cut the power to ski-lift motors if a cable slip from its pulley, is now available from Control Products Inc., 280 Ridgedale Ave., East Hanover, N.J. 07936.
The switch is activated when the cable strikes a projecting arm of the switch. Originally designed and produced for an outdoor military application, the waterproof switch has been adapted for ski lift use by adding a mounting bracket and special actuator arm. Average cost is $8 per switch.
An electronic signal system is also available from the manufacturer, designed to indicate to the lift operator the exact location of the lift failure.
Lift-line corrals
Leisure Media Inc., Box 2260, Colorado Springs, Colo. 80901, offers free corrals, including system design for each lift plus in-season maintenance and post-season storing. In addition, the company will pay the operator $100 for each 9-ft section which contains messages.
The program is reminiscent of the lift-line advertising common in Europe.
The Ad Flags are made of vinyl, and the printing and fabrication of flags and cordage is done by Goodwill Industries, an organization of handicapped.
It is planned that certain sections of the flags will contain national and local advertising, while other sections will carry public information.
Tow speed reducer
The new Hart planetary transmission speed reducer maintains a steady pull on ski tow powered by 40 HP motor, according to the Hart Reduction Pulley Co., Box 600, Winneconne, Wis., 54986.
Unit is designed so that all necessary reduction is enclosed in the housing, which acts as the driving pulley also.
Reduction ratios from .1999 to 1701:1 are standard, though special reductions can be made according to specifications.
Manufacturer claims this model provides soft starts and stops, plus steady pull regardless of the loads put on it.
New Mini-Pumper
Mini-Pumper is an all-purpose 4-wheel drive standard fire truck in stock for immediate delivery, according to the manufacturer, Pierce Manufacturing Inc., Box 616, Appleton, Wis. 54911. The unit has a 250 gpm Waterous pump, 275-gal. aluminum booster tank, 10,000 lb. front mount winch, pump and roll features.
Hose reel with 150 feet of ¾” 800 lb. hose, two 8-ft. lengths of hard suction hose, 12-ft. extension ladder and rear tow eye are standard.
Cushman safety canopy
Severn Associations, Box, 13, DeWitt, N.Y. 13214, has manufactured a safety canopy for the Cushman Trackster that is designed to provide protection against terrain and roll-over hazards.
The manufacturer claims the canopy exceeds minimum OSHA standards for crawling-type vehicles, and describes it as a welded and bolted assembly which is mounted directly to Trackster frame to insure total unit strength.
The Severn Safety Canopy is available in two models: the SC 100 for the standard Trackster, and SC 200 for the flotation-equipped Trackster.
Money Monitor
The Federal Detection Systems, of 56-18 Myrtle Avenue, Ridgewood, N.Y. 11227, has developed a device which they claim will spot counterfeit money.
While the craftsmanship in engraving a phony bill may be superb, the counterfeiter cannot duplicate the paper, and the Money monitor is based on this fact. The manufacturer claims that a bogus bill will glow a bluish-white under the viewplate, while the real bill will show no change in color.
Money Monitor sells for $29.95.
First aid station
Ski areas wanting to comply with OSHA first aid requirements may be interested in AID-1, a unit with over 600 first aid items or treatments, all individually wrapped and dispensed one at a time.
The unit, which measures 16-⅜” wide x 9-⅜” high x 4-¾” deep, is available through Medical Supply Co. 3703 N. Main Street, Rockford, Ill. 61101.
Portable pressure washer
Hydro Systems Co. of 6240 Wiehe Rd., Cincinnati, Ohio 45237, has introduced the Hydro-Blitz portable pressure washer.
It is designed to clean and sanitize food service areas and equipment, as well as building exteriors, service vehicles, lift equipment, pools and so forth.
Unit features the Cat Pump, 600 psi, 2 gpm capacity. Two mixing valves offer users a choice of two chemicals, each at its own dilution rate.
Manufacturer says the unit can be used with hot or cold water, and that nothing but water enters the pump.
The unit is mounted on heavy-duty 8-in. wheels, and the cabinet is designed to provide storage for chemical concentrates.
Nodwell’s new Pactrac
What is described as “an all-season, multi-purpose ski hill vehicle” has been introduced by Flextrac Nodwell, of Calgary, Alberta.
Called the FN21 Pactrac, it is a tracked power unit, designed for hill packing and slope grooming work loads during the ski season, and for transport of personnel and materials during the summer.
The manufacturer claims that the specially designed one-piece extruded aluminum grousers allow the Pactrac to roll over existing ski runs without damaging delicate dry surfaces, as well as offering increased snow shear values and effective packing capacility.
Shred-Pax waste handler
The marketing of a new refuse compacter-shredder has been announced by Jeffrey A. White, President of North American engineering, 875 Florence St., London, Ont. “Everyone is vitally concerned with the ecology problem as we are,” White said, “and peoples’ concern is heightened by the alarming increase in refuse and the need for a more economical and safer method for disposing of it.”
Developed from an original design from Germany, the unit fits on a base 30 inches square. White claims it is capable of reducing bottles, tin cans, plastics, building materials and general waste by up to 80 per cent of its original volume. The machine is operated by a 10 H.P. electric motor, and according to the manufacturer, can handle 14 cu. yds. of material per hour. This translates to 1,700 dozen soft drink cans per hour, or 8 cu. yds. per hour on glass bottles.
It is designed to shred car and truck tires with a special hopper equipped with lubricating spray, and also to shred paper for packing material.
“Garbology” booklet
The Tony Team, Inc., 7399 Bush Lake Rd., Minneapolis, Minn., 55435, has published a 48-page booklet (printed on re-cycled paper) entitled “The Modern Handbook of Garbology,” The booklet deals primarily with waste and refuse control problems in commercial businesses and institutions.
The company also has a 10-page brochure on its Pollution Packer “total system.” Among other units, it covers the company’s line of portable waste and refuse compactors. These compactors are designed to bale, bag or box wastes and refuse, wet or dry.
Bear-proof trash
A new trash and grabage container designed to keep out bears and other animals is available through Peerless Portable Metal Buildings, Inc., 1100 Fair Ave., Santa Cruz, Ca., 95060.
Lifting handles on the lids fall flush with the tops of lids and are designed so that bears cannot seize them. A rim around the top is supposed to prevent them getting their claws under the lids.
Four-compartment and two-compartment sizes are available, with each compartment holding the equivalent of a 55-gallon drum in a large trash bag.
Fryer fire protection
G. E. has announced a new line of commercial deep-fat fry kettles with a new built-in power turnoff designed to de-energize electrical power to the heating units when a fire protection system in the overhead vent hood has been activated.
This system was designed to comply with National Fire Protection Association Requirement No. 96.
