S/L Snow Nozzles
Joe Tropeano has announced the introduction through his Larchmont International of the S/L snowmaking nozzle called the “Energy Saver.” According to Tropeano, “The nozzle first breaks the water mechanically, then air is forced through a multitude of refrigeration venturi’s, on all of which patents are pending. The loaded liquid is ejected into the ambient air of ultra-high speed as a hollow cone to allow greater surface contact with cold air.”
The nozzles were designed by Spraco, the trade name for Spray Engineering Company of Burlington, Mass., a 60-year-old firm in the design and manufacturing of industrial spray nozzles.
The S/L nozzles are designed to fit all single, twin and quad units now in the field, and will be marketed individually or as complete snowmakers through an exclusive agreement with Larchmont International, P.O. Box 448, Milton, Mass., 02186.
“42” Bed
Mountain Power Mechanics, Ltd. has introduced a hydraulic dump body 6′ long and 7′ wide constructed of 2″ square steel tubing and 5/8″ plywood decking with an added feature of 2″ stake pockets on three sides, and a tie rail on both sides and rear, giving it the versatility of handling a wide range of loads with a snag resistant outer perimeter.
The “42” Bed has a low profile dump mechanism which allows the lowest possible fit to a tractor, and a positive latching device for locking body down. The release from the operator’s seat is designed for safety and convenience.

Portable boom-mount
Snow Machines, Inc. has introduced a new mounting unit for its SnowStream 320 Snowmaker. This new portable boom-mount is known as the SnowStream 420. Seventeen feet long and twelve feet wide, the new support unit allows the SnowStream 320 head to be positioned 18 feet in the air, “vastly increasing the throw and dryness of the snow produced,” according to Jim VanderKelen, President of Snow Machines Inc. “Some areas need permanently mounted booms, some need carriages close to the ground to control the throw and some need a wide distribution of snow. With the new 420 we have now broadened our line to meet the needs of all ski areas.”
Wire rope testing
A new, compact Permanent Magnet Type Wire Rope Tester, the PMK 77, has been introduced by Kundig AG of Switzerland. The detector measures 11½” x 6¾” x 6¾” and weighs 53 lbs. A single channel, thermal writing recorder is connected to the detector that is designed to indicate on chart paper any defect the rope may have.
This portable instrument is specifically designed to test wire ropes of chairlifts, gondolas and T-bars up to 1⅝” (40 mm) rope diameter. The recorder will operate either on built-in rechargeable batteries, or on 110 V line. The complete unit is priced at $6,500.00 delivered.
