If you want a change, get involved and work for it — from within. Talk to your regional director and give him (maybe someday we’ll be able to say “her”) your thinking.
There is as much need for a national association today as there was 30 years ago when National Ski Areas Association was founded. Probably more. (Read our comments on the late founding president, above.)
We are blessed with ever-stronger and ever-more effective regional associations. That is good and to be encouraged. But that doesn’t mean we don’t need an ever-more effective national organization. However, without an involved membership, we can’t have that.
This magazine, as the reader may have noticed, may on occasion disagree with USIA and some of its directions: but that doesn’t for one second mean we want it to fail. Far from it, we fight to force it to succeed. (And though we hate to admit it, perhaps we are sometimes wrong ourselves!)
It wasn’t long ago that ski area meetings were events of passionate discussions — okay, arguments. From that contentious crucible came strength. It meant we cared.
