Remembering Dick Bird

Richard “Dick” Bird died at age 69 on August 1, 1998, following a heart attack on July 25. He retired in 1994 from the U.S. Forest Service, where he had served as the Regional Tramway Engineer for the Intermountain region for 25 years. Dick, always a good friend to ski areas, was presented with an award in 1993 by the Intermountain Ski Areas Association (ISAA) for “outstanding contributions to the sport of skiing.” Dick was an active participant in ISAA, NSAA and the Rocky Mountain Lift Association, and he served on several ANSI committees. He liked his work and had made industry friends worldwide through his affiliation with the international organizations ITTAB and OITAF. We will miss his moustached smile and will not soon forget him.
