This issue marks the start of the 40th year of publishing Ski Area Management. For us it is not an occasion for wild celebration, but rather for introspection—a time for expressing quiet satisfaction at having played a part for all this time in the life of our sport and our industry. Our sincere thanks to you, our readers, who have helped us—sometimes praising, sometimes scolding, but always encouraging us. Our sincere thanks also to our advertisers who have always understood that our readers come first and that advertising is most effective in an editorial climate of credibility and integrity.
In recent years, despite the incredibly deep pockets of their owners, so many of the ski industry trade periodicals have either disappeared (Ski Business, Wintersport Business, Ski Tech) or been downsized like Skiing Trade News). We feel humbled, but also proud to be confidently on the road to our 50th.
As we said in our first issue, “Ski Area Management is your magazine. . .It exists to serve and interest every person connected with the operation of a ski area. It will succeed in direct proportion to its usefulness to this audience.”
