Computer management
SAMI is a computer system which, according to Haverly, will provide a multiplicity of services, including full service accounting system, payroll system, mailing list maintenance and label production with full selectivity, provide discrepancy reports, manning analysis, a weekly “mini P&L analysis” and many other functions.
The one-time purchase price for the SAMI system is $35,000, including the computer and data entry and control point.

Turcite bearings
W. S. Shamban & Co., P.O. Box 665, Newbury Park, CA, 91320, is marketing Turcite bearings for use on ski lifts in the chair hangers, evener frames and sheave assembly. The bearings require no grease prior to, or after installation, according to the manufacturer.
The bearings have been extensively used at Mammoth Mt., Calif.

New Riblet products
The Riblet Tramway Co., Box 5220, Spokane, WA, 99205, has developed an overhead tension terminal (see illustration) which is adaptable for bull-wheel loading or unloading. The company has also developed an overhead drive which is available as stationary or combination tension drive.
An adjustable tension terminal is available for areas which have heavy snowfall and need off-the-snow loading.

GLM rack conversion
The Ski Safe Company, 1714 Stockton St., San Francisco, CA, 94133, provides free decals and conversion information on making Ski Safe racks, both linear pole-mounted, take short GLM skis.
The standard coin-operated rack will usually not safely check skis shorter than 170 cm, but, according to the manufacturers, the Ski Safe racks “are constructed in such a way that a conversion for skis as short as 120 cm is very simple.”

Pads for areas
Tower pads, chairlift pads, toboggan pads and patrol belts are available from Bel-Aire Products, Inc., of 82 Lincoln St., Akron, Ohio. These accessories are made of “Duratuff”—an 18-oz nylon-reinforced vinyl. The manfacturer claims it is flexible to minus 30 degrees F., and is soap and water cleanable.

Ski timing system
An electronic digital timing system has been developed by Ideal Aerosmith, Inc., of 1505 E. Fox Farm Road, Cheyenne, WY 82001.
The system was designed by Dr. Sam Hakes, an avid ski racing fan and certified official, who is head of the University of Wyoming’s Electrical Engineering Department. The basic Race Timer ski timing system consists of a master timer, and starting gate, photo transistor-exciter lamp finish gate, split-time switch and remote control box.
Price of the basic system is $795. Optional extras include printout unit, tripods for finish, carrying case and slave timer.
Also available are skiing scoreboards which tie into the timing unit. As the ski races, one scoreboard shows his actual running time down to one thousandth of a second, while the other keeps track of the leaders and their times.
The Race Timer adapts to training use because it is portable, and can be operated by only one person. Power is supplied by an ordinary automobile 12-volt dc battery. Also available are special batteries weighing only 5¼ lbs that supply power sufficient for one hour of continuous use.

Lift monitoring
A ski lift monitoring system is available from Kim Controls Inc., 1441 Iglehart Ave., St. Paul, MN 55104. The package enables an operator to immediately locate an equipment malfunction or a possibility of safety circuit interruption.
The system can be adapted to existing chairlifts and tailored to the exact number of safety circuits on a given lift.
Proximity switches are used to monitor cable positions, providing detection of inside and outside cable derailments.

Maxey groomer
A new product for ski areas has been developed by Maxey Manufacturing Co., 2101 Airways, Fort Colins, Colo. 80521.
Called the Maxey Trail & Slope Groomer, it features fifth wheel recessed ball gooseneck hitch, which, according to Maxey, makes for easier pulling and greater maneuverability.
The roller is 30 in. X 120 in., with a 120-in. cutting edge moldboard. Optional equipment includes hydraulic controlled mesh drag screens, pintle hitch drawbar and ripper rake.
Maxey Manufacturing also markets the Maxey Snow-Mover.
