Skiing on a Budget

By Claire Walter. 156 pp. Cincinnati, Ohio: Betterway Books, $15.99

I like this book! Not only is it well-written and concise, it focuses on a single topic that is important to skiers: saving money. This book is stuffed with valuable information. The 12 chapters cover almost every conceivable place that skiers can spend and save money: taking lessons, buying lift tickets, lodging and eating as well as family trips, group benefits, ski equipment and more.

Just look at the chapter called “Ticket Tactics” which begins by suggesting that skiers go to a ski show and get a coupon for a lift ticket. From there, a brief description of five national and four regional associations is provided, followed by money-saving benefits and drawbacks of season passes, pre-purchasing lift tickets, coupon books, pay-as-you-ski tickets, half-day tickets, midweek deals, senior specials and almost everything else that skiers would want to know about lift ticket opportunities.

Why should ski resort operators, marketers, finance managers, group sales personnel and practically every other ski area executive read this book? Because it reminds us of what skiers are looking for, what they want, what other areas are offering and how to deliver a better and more cost-effective experience to guests.

Worth having in a reference library.
