SAM Magazine—Park City, Utah, Feb. 24, 2022—Jesse Hunt will step down as alpine director for U.S. Ski & Snowboard (USSS), effective July 1, 2022.JesseHunt The organization said Hunt will stay on to ensure a smooth transition as it actively recruits for his replacement.

“Jesse has been an important leader of the U.S. Alpine Ski Team for many years and has left a lasting impact on our athletes, coaches and programs,” said a spokesperson for US Ski & Snowboard. “During his two stints with U.S. Ski & Snowboard, he led the alpine program to great success, including 13 Olympic medals and 26 World Championship medals. We thank Jesse for his long commitment to the organization and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Previously, Hunt had spent 16 years with USSS until he stepped down in 2009 before re-joining as alpine director in 2018. In the interim, he served as program director and general manager of Park City Ski & Snowboard, an elite training and development program for youth athletes.

Hunt’s departure comes on the heels of a disappointing Beijing Winter Olympics for the U.S. alpine team, which brought home just one medal out of 30 individual medals awarded in alpine skiing.

The alpine director position is listed on the U.S. Ski & Snowboard job board. It reads, “U.S. Ski & Snowboard is recruiting for the position of Alpine Director. The Alpine Director is responsible for developing and implementing the strategy and culture from development to elite to take USSS to the next level of success during this next cycle and beyond. This will be done by working to provide the teams and programs at all levels with the appropriate structure and resources necessary for success at the highest level, in a sustainable way.”

In addition to Hunt stepping down, USSS is also dealing with recent accusations of sexual harassment and racism that were made against a U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team coach and athlete, respectively.
