SAM Magazine—Phoenix, Ariz., March 29, 2023—Mountain Capital Partners (MCP) is taking on a new venture: golf. The winter resort operator is buying Silver Creek Golf Course, which includes management of neighboring Bison Golf Club. Both are par 71 public courses located in Show Low, Arizona.MCP HN

Separated by less than 20 miles in the White Mountains of eastern Arizona, the 6,813 yard Silver Creek Golf Club and 6,413 yard Bison Golf Club were formerly owned or operated by PGA golf pro Lloyd Harvey, who will remain as a consultant and general manager at Silver Creek.

“I’m very excited to step into this new era for both courses and the fun we’re going to have as a team,” Harvey said.

This new venture marks MCP's first step into golf operations. The Durango-based management company, with offices in Phoenix, owns and operates nine resorts in the Southwest and Pacific Northwest. In January MCP became the majority owner of Valle Nevado, Chile, the company’s first international resort.

While golf is certainly new terrain for MCP, the best practices learned through the company’s 20-plus years of resort experience will still apply, said Kuzi Mutsiwegota, MCP’s managing partner of golf operations. “There are tremendous synergies between ski resorts and golf clubs, and we couldn’t be happier to expand our offerings to another year-round, outdoor adventure,” he said.

“Arizona is home to us, and we are thrilled to now be a part of the Show Low community,” Mutsiwegota said. “We have a true love for the game of golf, and we’re eager to share that—and our passion for recreating in these mountains—with both new and seasoned players.”
