SAM Magazine—Grand Junction, Colo., April 20, 2023—Leitner-Poma of America (LPOA), will build a $27 million manufacturing facility in Tooele, Utah, about 35 miles southwest of Salt Lake City. LPOAThe new facility, scheduled to be completed by 2024, will be LPOA’s largest facility in the country at more than 130,000 square feet, and will serve as the manufacturing headquarters for Skytrac, an LPOA subsidiary.

“New ropeway systems are rising at a record-setting pace worldwide,” said Daren Cole, president of LPOA. “The output from this new campus, as well as our work to further onshore our supply chain, positions us to better meet the growing demand throughout the country,” he added, noting the company’s long-term commitment to its “Made in America” initiative.

The new facility will allow the company to increase its overall production, as well as increase its existing staff in Utah by up to 60 percent, according to Cole. It will also include the installation of solar panels and a 162-foot-tall LTW42 wind turbine with the capacity to produce 250 kilowatts—enough to supply 100 percent of the facility’s electricity.

The LTW42 turbine was developed by LPOA's affiliate company Leitwind, and the new Skytrac headquarters will serve as a showcase for the technology. If market demand develops as expected, said Cole, the turbines could be manufactured at the Tooele facility.

In addition to forthcoming Utah facility, LPOA recently purchased five acres adjacent to its existing 100,000 square-foot-facility in Grand Junction, Colo., with plans to expand its manufacturing capabilities there as well.
