SAM Magazine—Boyne Falls, Mich., June 9, 2023—Boyne Resorts named Matt Davies as president and general manager of Cypress Mountain, West Vancouver, B.C. Davies started in the role June 1.Boyne Resorts He is responsible for growth and overall performance as well as long-term planning and development. Davies reports to Jay Scambio, Boyne Resorts COO of day resorts.  

“Matt’s resort operations knowledge and leadership qualities are proven and I’m also confident that his summer operations experience is an ideal fit with our focus on expanding the resort’s summer offerings,” Scambio said.  

Davies, who is originally from the Vancouver area and grew up skiing at Cypress, has 23 years of ski resort experience at Whistler Blackcomb, B.C., most recently as senior director of base area operations and business development. He was initially hired by Whistler Blackcomb in 2000 as the general manager of rental and retail, overseeing 10 business outlets. Over the next 15 years, his oversight grew to include 35 business units and he helped drive the division’s overall success.  

He was named director of product sales and scanning in 2015 and led guest services as well as the integration of systems and processes when Whistler Blackcomb was acquired by Vail Resorts. In 2018, his role was expanded to a senior-level director position and included leadership of summer business development and capital expansion planning. Shortly after, he was selected to lead the resort’s base area operations division and business development team. 

“This is a long-held vision for me to have the opportunity to lead a resort and I am thrilled it’s become a reality at Cypress Mountain,” Davies said.

Cypress is located 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver, a city of nearly 2.5 million people. It has 53 trails, 600 skiable acres, and more than 2,000 feet of vertical served by six lifts.
