SAM Magazine—Natick, Mass., Oct. 9, 2023— IAMhn Ski areas across North America are invited to nominate their snowmaking teams to participate in the ninth annual “I AM a Snowmaker” contest, presented by HKD Snowmakers. The “I AM” contest highlights the importance of snowmakers and their unique role in mountain operations and the success of the mountain.

"Each year, the I AM a Snowmaker contest shines a spotlight on the snowmakers who display strong character, passion for our craft, and a unique set of skills that result in snow-covered trails for all skiers and riders to enjoy, “ said HKD president Charles Santry.

“Today we face a critical juncture in ski resort operations. Individuals with years of experience and mountain-specific knowledge are retiring in record numbers. We are rooting for those in mountain operations and snowmaking to be the future leaders within our industry. As always, we cannot wait to see your videos highlighting the talent within the snowmaking ranks. Bring on the cold weather!”

Nominations are open Monday, Oct. 9 through Friday, Oct. 20, 2023. This year’s competing teams will be announced on Nov. 1, 2023, and challenged to produce a “day in the life" video that captures the heart and soul of their snowmaking team. They will showcase how snowmakers’ contributions result in personal development and the overall success of the mountain. Videos will be shared and voted on in January 2024.

“It’s time again to get fired up about snowmaking and the people behind this ever-important mountain operation,” said SAM publisher Olivia Rowan. “We’re excited to celebrate nine years of recognizing the contribution of your snowmaking teams and institutional knowledge being passed from old to new leaders within the industry. SAM is a proud supporter of this acknowledgment.”

The winning I AM a Snowmaker team will be hosted by HKD at their snowmaking factory in Quebec City, Canada for 2 days of education and entertainment. Snowmakers will be given the opportunity to dive deep into HKD’s best-selling products and learn how to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and operate HKD equipment safely.
