SAM Magazine--Fraser, Colo., Mar. 3, 2004--Marise Cipriani is repositioning her SolVista ski area again, changing the name to The Granby Ranch and marketing the ski area and its related real estate as an affordable mountain resort community. Cipriani purchased the SilverCreek ski area in 1995, and renamed it SolVista in 2000.

The Granby Ranch community will expand with the addition of 272 cabins, homes and condos with prices starting around $300,000, according to the Denver Post. The development plan is a small part of a larger community Cipriani has envisioned over the years. The ski area and a new 18-hole golf course will anchor the enclave.

Gerry Engle, who developed Cordillera (best known as the scene of the alleged rape in the Kobe Bryant case) west of Vail and Catamount Ranch outside Steamboat Springs, is a partner in the project. Cipriani and Engle plan to survey potential Granby Ranch homeowners to find out how they would envision an ideal mountain community and use this input to guide the development.

The name change coincides with a decision to move away from a destination resort model to an older concept in which the ski hill is a community-based enterprise serving the local community, much like Howelsen Hill in Steamboat, Engle told the Post. \
