SAM Magazine—Government Camp, Ore., May 1, 2026—Ski Bowl Lift HN NEWTwo Mt. Hood Skibowl employees were in a work carrier when it fell from the line of the Upper Bowl chairlift Thursday morning, killing one and injuring the other, according to a report from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

The carrier fell into rugged terrain. A third person on scene called 911 shortly after 9:30 a.m. and reported one person was conscious and breathing and the second was unconscious. The third person on the scene began performing CPR and medics arrived shortly after 10 a.m. to find the unconscious person without a pulse. 

Despite lifesaving efforts, that person was pronounced dead at the scene. The other injured worker was transported by Life Flight to a local hospital for treatment, and their condition isn’t known at this time.

Several agency personnel responded including Deputies, Hoodland Fire, Clackamas Fire, American Medical Response, Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue volunteers, and U.S. Forest Service law enforcement. The incident is being investigated as a workplace death, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified, the Sheriff’s report said. 

Upper Bowl is a double chair constructed by Riblet in 1975, according to Liftblog.com. It serves expert terrain off Skibowl Peak.
