SAM Magazine—East Burke, Vt., Nov. 19, 2025—Burke Mountain Resort has named industry veteran Gabe Porter-Henry as its new general manager, effective Dec. 1. He will work alongside interim general manager Tom Day through the end of the calendar year as the resort continues its transition to new ownership under Bear Den Partners.
Porter-Henry has more than 20 years of experience in the ski and outdoor industries, most recently holding multiple leadership roles across Berkshire East Mountain Resort and its affiliated companies in Massachusetts, Thunder Mountain Bike Park and Zoar Outdoor, and Big Red Cats in British Columbia. He has also held leadership roles in experiential education, helping grow one international organization from $3 million to $28 million in annual revenue while building programs that combined adventure, cultural exchange, and community service.
“I’ve known Gabe since I was six years old,” said Bear Den Partners chief operating officer and Berkshire East owner Jon Schaefer. “Generally speaking, I run into messes, and Gabe helps clean them up and is a tremendous resort operator. I couldn’t be more proud to hand him the keys to Burke and point him at one of the most special communities in New England.”
Day, who postponed retirement to step in as interim GM in June, was tasked with overseeing all departments as Burke implemented new operating systems and moved from receivership to active ownership. He will remain at the resort through the end of 2025 to support the leadership transition.
“My job has been to make each department shine; the staff was ready to do that,” said Day. “I really appreciate the time I have had here and can’t wait to see Burke continue to flourish with the dedication of Bear Den Partners, the staff in place and with Gabe at the helm.”
