SAM Magazine—Beaver, Utah, July 31, 2026—Credit: UDOTState Route 153 through Beaver Canyon, the primary access to Eagle Point Resort, is closed indefinitely after flash flooding and debris flows severely damaged or completely washed away the road in several locations July 19, according to Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT). Eagle Point sustained significant damage from the Cottonwood Fire in late June and was still in the early stages of recovery efforts and assessing damage when the flooding occurred. 

In a July 22 press release about the flooding, UDOT said the heaviest damage was concentrated between mileposts 7.5 and 10.5. Debris had completely blocked the highway and multiple sections of road were destroyed. The burn scar from the Cottonwood Fire significantly increases the risk of flash flooding and debris flows, said UDOT. 

A video posted by UDOT on July 29 shows a “small look” at the destruction. “Rebuilding and repairing this infrastructure will require extensive, multi-agency coordination across local, state, and regional partners,” the post reads. “This won’t be a quick fix.”

SR-153 extends approximately 21 paved miles from Beaver to the summit near Eagle Point Resort and continues for approximately 19 miles toward U.S. 89 on the Piute County side, where portions of the route are gravel and dirt, according to UDOT. Access from either side is unsafe.

Monsoon season has brought heavy rains during near-daily afternoon thunderstorms, stressing recovery efforts.

“Right now, with SR-153 washed out, our priority is to protect I-15 and Beaver’s Main Street,” which serve as primary evacuation routes for the community, UDOT Region 4 deputy director Jared Beard said. “Every day, we are watching the skies, and our team is primed to react to any other changes.”

Eagle Point alerted its social media followers of the closure, saying the road is closed indefinitely. “We are working closely with UDOT, Beaver County, and other agency partners to assess conditions and identify a path toward reopening the roadway. Restoring safe access is a critical step in supporting homeowners, damage assessments, cleanup efforts, and the broader recovery process.”
