A look at the highly successful nordic area, Royal Gorge, Calif., and its innovative leader, John Slouber. Using the idea that most cross country skiers are cross-overs from alpine, Slouber has modeled his area after the alpine areas and marketed to alpine skiers. The end result is an area with 117,000 annual skier visits and15 to 24 percent annual increases.
