Job Summary

The Snowmaking Manager at The Hermitage Club at Haystack Mountain is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of snowmaking operations. This position ensures the creation and maintenance of high-quality snow surfaces, providing members and guests with exceptional skiing and snowboarding conditions. The Snowmaking Manager supervises a dedicated team, manages snowmaking systems and resources, and collaborates with other departments to support the mountain's overall operations.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute all snowmaking operations to achieve optimal snow coverage and quality.
  • Supervise and mentor snowmaking staff, providing training and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
  • Maintain and operate snowmaking equipment on and off season. ensuring all systems are in excellent working order.

Team Management:

  • Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for snowmaking operations.

Equipment and Resource Management:

  • Oversee maintenance and repair of snowmaking equipment and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Mountain Operations on facilitating capital improvements and budget planning.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with other departments, including grooming, lift operations, and ski patrol, to align snowmaking efforts with overall mountain needs.
  • Assist other departments during peak periods as needed, demonstrating a collaborative approach to mountain operations.

Qualifications Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of snowmaking experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong technical knowledge of snowmaking systems, including pumps, compressors, and snow guns.

Skills & Abilities:

  •  Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team in challenging conditions.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Ability to lift, carry, or drag up to 75 lbs.
  • Comfortable working long hours in extreme winter conditions, including cold, wind, and snow.
  • Ability to operate snowmobiles and other equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the snowmaking schedule.
