SAM Magazine—Twin Bridges, Calif., March 14, 2022—To celebrate its 75th anniversary as it rises from the ashes of disaster, Sierra-at-Tahoe will reopen for one weekend, April 9–10, 2022.Sierra 440x340 The celebration follows months of work recovering from the impacts of the Caldor Fire, which burned upwards of 80 percent of the trees on property, damaged several lifts, and destroyed millions of dollars in equipment in late-August 2021.

“To pay homage to our history while setting our sights on the future, we are OPENING the resort for ONE WEEKEND ONLY on April 9–10 2022, to reflect and reconnect—together with your fellow Sierra family members,” the resort said in the announcement. “Share in the experience of what makes this place so truly unique and special with live music all weekend, competitions, giveaways, and so much more. After a year of unforeseen events and unknown obstacles, we are ecstatic to welcome passholders, ticket holders, and all those who love Sierra.”

The resort plans to have the Easy Rider Express quad, Rock Garden double, and Slider carpet open to serve one terrain park and other to-be-determined terrain, depending on conditions. Sierra continues to take down “hazard trees” that were burned in the fire but still stand, some precariously. The event announcement specifically warns guests that “off-trail fire obstacles exist, please stay on open trails ONLY. Watch for unmarked obstacles. Active trail repair is in process throughout the resort, please abide by all closures.”

Events over the weekend include the Subaru Winterfest on Saturday and the Methodology terrain park event on Sunday. Some amenities will be open, including Sierra Mt. Sports, eateries and pop-up bars on Solstice Plaza, and the season pass office. Rentals, lessons, repair, tubing, snow play, and other services and amenities will not be available.

Lift tickets go on sale March 16. Both 2021-22 and soon-to-be-available 2022-23 season passes will be valid all weekend. The resort anticipates reaching parking capacity and is encouraging guests to carpool.

The event marks the beginning of the next chapter for Sierra-at-Tahoe. “We are setting our sights on a full opening next winter … skiing and riding will be very limited throughout the weekend, but smiles, high fives, and good vibes will be in abundance and that is truly what this anniversary event is all about!” the resort said.
