SAM Magazine—Denver, Sept. 10, 2025 — Alterra Mountain Company is spending more than $400 million on capital projects, guest amenities, and employee programs across its portfolio for the 2025-26 season, with a major share directed to Deer Valley Resort’s ongoing transformation.Deer Valley's new East Village Gondola.
For the coming winter, the Utah destination will add nearly 80 new trails, six chairlifts, and a 10-passenger gondola linking the new Deer Valley East Village to Park Peak. Since last December, the resort has debuted 10 lifts and almost 100 runs as part of a multi-year project that will more than double its skiable terrain when complete.
Beyond Deer Valley, the new 18,000-square-foot Shavers Center will open at Snowshoe, W.Va., replacing a nearly 50-year-old decommissioned base building with updated skier services, dining, and event space.
Stratton in Vermont, Palisades Tahoe in California, and Steamboat in Colorado will each debut “new premium lounges” with elevated F&B outlets, while Mammoth’s Westin Monache hotel will reopen next spring with refreshed interiors, a redesigned restaurant and bar, and a new coffee shop and marketplace.
Crystal Mountain, Wash., is replacing its 40-year-old Rainier Express (REX) with a detachable quad that will boost uphill capacity by up to 50 percent, part of ongoing upgrades that also include $3 million worth of lift modernizations at Stratton, Sugarbush, Vt., Crystal, and Steamboat.
Winter Park in Colorado is midway through a two-year rebuild of its snowmaking infrastructure, a project that has already cut energy use nearly in half.
The company is also directing funds toward its workforce. More than 200 new employee beds are being added through acquisitions and leases, with housing developments underway at Deer Valley, Palisades Tahoe, Mammoth, Stratton, and Crystal. In addition, Alterra has rolled out health care coverage for 14,000 seasonal workers, expanded training for lift mechanics and ski patrollers, and invested in leadership programs for full-time staff as well.
