SAM Magazine—Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, Jan. 23, 2026—Unionized workers returned to work today and Le Massif de Charlevoix will reopen for winter operations tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 24, after the resort and the union reached a tentative collective agreement, concluding a three-week strike.Le Massif Earlier this week, Le Massif ownership ended the resort’s nearly two-week period of limited operations and said the winter season could be over after the union rejected its contract offer on Monday.

The two sides returned to negotiations after the Quebec Labor Ministry appointed a conciliator on Tuesday to help reach a deal. On Thursday afternoon, union members voted 91 percent in favor of the conciliator’s contract proposal, which includes cumulative annual wage increases totaling 19 percent over five years, and provides a mechanism that would protect against inflation and enhance pay raises should the price index outpace contracted increases, according to CBC News

“We wanted better working conditions, a better salary, that’s what the members wanted and that’s what we got,” said Massif Workers’ Union president Annick Simard in a statement to CBC News.

Le Massif released a statement Thursday praising the conciliation team, “whose efforts enabled the parties to reach common ground,” adding that the tentative agreement “marks a decisive step toward the full resumption of operations at Le Massif de Charlevoix.”

Groupe Le Massif president Claude Choquette said, “This agreement represents a significant turning point. It allows us to move beyond the impasse in a constructive manner and to place the collective interest back at the heart of the solution. It is a meaningful step toward a viable future in the short, medium and long term, for the benefit of all.”

Le Massif is a primary driver of economic activity in the Charlevoix region. The initial five-day closure at the outset of the strike, Jan. 2–6, followed by limited operations until the resort closed again on Tuesday, Jan. 20, was a major blow to local businesses, according to multiple reports. The resort acknowledged the impact in its Thursday statement.

“Le Massif de Charlevoix wishes to welcome back its unionized employees and to recognize the importance of this agreement for the community, guests, partners and the regional economic ecosystem. This outcome allows the organization to look ahead with confidence and opens the door to a renewed period of collaboration.”
