SAM Magazine—Slinger Wis., Feb. 16, 2026—Little Switz New LiftLittle Switzerland Ski Area will install two new Skytrac quad chairlifts this summer to replace the ski area’s Lift 1 and Lift 2, a unique “up and over” double chairlift that loads from both the base area and backside of the ski area and transports guests uphill in opposite directions to unload at the summit mid-point. It was originally installed in 1964.

The $4 million investment is the ski area’s largest single capital improvement to date and will more than double the current uphill capacity.

“Lifts 1 and 2 are special lifts in the history of skiing in southeastern Wisconsin,” said Little Switzerland co-owner Rick Schmitz. “I learned to ski on them, and they have served generations of skiers and snowboarders well, but this upgrade is all about continuing to move forward—improving reliability, comfort, and the overall guest experience.”

Since re-opening the ski area in 2012, owners the Schmitz Brothers have invested millions into snowmaking, terrain expansion, facilities, parking, guest amenities, and surface lift infrastructure.

Installation of the two new lifts will begin with the removal of Lift 1 and Lift 2 right after Little Switz closes for the season in March. The ski area will document progress on a dedicated blog on its website.
