SAM Magazine—Mt. Hood, Ore., Dec. 8, 2023—Legendary snowboarder Shaun White is part of a trio of big names making a significant investment in We Are Camp, the parent company of Windells action sports camp and High Cascade snowboard camp, which White attended as a youth, helping to propel his career. HCWindell

We Are Camp operates action sports camps for youth and adults focused on snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding, and mountain biking. White, along with investment partners Josh Harris and David Blitzer, announced Dec. 6 a plan to improve the company’s action sports activities and bring the programs to new audiences.

“As a kid, I was so thrilled to spend every summer going up to Windells and High Cascade Snowboard Camp,” said White. “Those were some of my fondest memories. I would snowboard the best park and halfpipe in the morning and then the afternoons would be filled with skateboarding, trampolines, and mountain biking. It was epic. I learned so much from the coaches there, but also had access to tips from professional riders who were also there training.”

White said he has continued to train at High Cascade and plans to attend the snowboard camp again on June 16, 2024. “I’m excited to step in and help elevate a place that’s so special to me, so come June, you’ll know where to find me,” he said.

In a press release, White and the founders of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment said they aim to “solidify We Are Camp as the premier cultural destination for skiers, snowboarders, skateboarders, and mountain bikers while increasing accessibility and growing participation for youth each year.”

We Are Camp CEO Kevin English will retain ownership and will continue to lead the company. “This is a tremendous moment for We Are Camp as Shaun, Josh, and David are not only the best in their respective fields, but they whole-heartedly believe in our mission of life improvement through people, place, and passion,” English said. “They really seem to be in ‘give-back mode,’ wanting to do things that matter to society, an ethos upon which our camps were founded. Together we will not just grow the business but grow action sports participation for all.”

Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment owns and operates the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers and NHL’s New Jersey Devils, among other professional sports franchises and venues, and works to create sports and educational opportunities for youth. In January, the company made a similar strategic investment in Ripken Baseball and Cooperstown All Star Village, merging the two brands to expand a national network of baseball facilities and programs.
